Blonde Vinyl Memorial
The Bumpus Hounds
According to the Industrial Revoultion in Winter 1991: “Cyber-core (my name for it) is also taking the scene by force. With Mortal already out and Circle of Dust due out in March, Chatterbox, The Bumpus Hounds and others are following suit. They all have a distinct sound, though. The Bumpus Hounds is a collaboration of Eric Shirey and Oatmeal (of Houston’s Red Ink). They combine bizzare smaples and core style guitar (lots of it) for a very Godflesh-ish sound. Rumor has it that Deitiphobia is collaborating for a cyber-core project to be released on Blonde Vinyl through SLAVA Music. I hear that it combines a sort of Ministry Land of… with the quirkiness that spell Deitiphobia and that some Blonde Vinyl artist may show up on the album (is BV taking over the show?)”

Wow! To find this! Who are you and where did you get this info from? I’m Oatmeal from Red Ink (Neil now-a-days). Did I know you back in Houston? (Austin?) You got a lot of the info correct. Nice! That little project didn’t go anywhere, but I’m happy to see there’s a touch of a legacy. My fave line… “lots of it” about the grind core guitaring. 🙂

Hey Neil – Thanks for commenting! I found all of this online (@ Automatapedia). I’ve never met you or lived in Houston or Austin. Waco and Dallas, yes. But I was just doing research on Blonde Vinyl and Slava and came across this information. Sounds like a cool project, though – there doesn’t happen to be a place to get it still? Got an extra copies? 🙂 And feel free to email any corrections in to the site: admin (at) knottheads (dot) com

I remember this very well!In fact, this was recorded in my apt in Austin. Wally had his 8-track machine, sampler and I provided apartment, spaghetti and the vox on “Temple” along with MC White-E. Oatmeal, Eric and Wally are awesome dudes! God is so awesome! That was a awesome time for all of us. Oatmeal and The Red Ink guys were great friends of mine.

Man! I just did a search for “red ink oatmeal” to see what I would find and this was the only valid result. Cool!I tried bringing Red Ink to a show I produced in Indianapolis Nov 16 1990. They were driving and had some vehicle issues :-(I still remember the Red Ink Tune “Baby Killers” pretty well. Ahhhh the good ol’ daze!
