Michael Knott and Adam Kump | Chasing Angels

Adam Kump had this to say on the YouTube video for his cover of “Sunshine”: “Michael Knott was the cool uncle who initially taught me guitar and how to write a pop-song when I was a teenager in 2004. A gift that shaped my high school experience by allowing me the outlet of songwriting and transformed me to have the confidence to perform onstage.

Two decades later, at the close of January 2024, Mike and I recorded the last of the Trilogy of Angel albums and we named it Chasing Angels. He drove all the way from Huntington Beach, CA and came to visit me at my home studio for 10 days in Arizona. We spent cherished time together, laughed a lot, and I watched the man bare his soul on the microphone, and got to experience his reaction to my developed songwriting and my singing, in-person. We wrote about angels, complex sin, grieving, and death. There was still so much to do when he left, plans for touring together and many more projects in the future. The album was only partway done before he unexpectedly passed away less than 40 days later.

This last year, working on Chasing Angels has been a gift for cathartic grief and trying to continue Michael Gerard Knott’s legacy of raw, real and vulnerable songwriting that ultimately points to Christ.

I’m proud to say that Chasing Angels, his final album which he co-wrote and recorded with me, Adam Kump, will be released this year on vinyl and CD.” Behold! Industries will handle the release of the CD and vinyl.”

Ada Kump also posted this video of an answering machine message Knott left him, along with a preview of the first song:
