Concert Stories

This page is a collection of random concert stories that either have not been connected to a specific concert, or there are not enough details on that concert to start it’s own page yet. If you want to add any stories, see the comment form below. If you have setlists and details about any show that is not in the Gigography page, please contact me and I can add it.

Lifesavers – 1983-84

“I went to see Lifesavors live at a local Christian bookstore around the time of the Dream Life release, my friends and I had a little teen rock band going and so after the show we talked to Mike and convinced him to come to one of our rehearsals, listen to us, and give us some advice. Well he showed up (a little late) and patiently listened to us play our pathetic songs and then gave us some advice. Before he left we convinced him to play a song for us on my friends acoustic guitar, he played a song I think it was called ‘Sky Blue’ and we recorded it on our portable cassette player. I think my friend might still have the tape somewhere it is interesting in retrospect.”

L.S.U. – Cornerstone 1989?

“at the county fair north of Chicago in the large tin shed on a hot afternoon, found Knott performing music from Shaded Pain and the latest L.S.U. outing, This is the Healing. Standing stoic, nearly motionless on the stage, with a large white cowboy hat covering his eyes and a large white hollow-bodied guitar that fed back relentlessly, Knott held all eyes hypnotically.”

Brian Q. Newcomb (Former Editor and Founder, Syndicate, in the Bring It Down Now liner notes)

L.S.U. 1992

“L.S.U. played in a Christian club. Knott ended ‘Tether to Tassel’ with a audience sing-a-log with a little Neil Diamond. ‘She’s got the way to move me!'”

L.S.U. – 1994 Tour

“One night on the tour, I was baptized with clam chowder and exploded animal stuffing while I bled my way through a fifteen-minute version of the song. On another, the performance was actually very good as the band watched Knott beat the snot out of a Santa Claus dummy.”

(David Vanderpoel, from the Bring It Down Now liner notes)

Aunt Betty’s Ford

“During one of the early Aunt Betty’s shows (full of Label scouts) Knott did the last half of the concert in a dress taken off a girl in the audience. Elektra still signed them.”
