Strung Gurus was started by Mike and the legendary Dennis Danell of Social Distortion. Unfortunately, Dennis passed away in 2000 while their debut album was being recorded. Since the album was almost finished, Mike had stated that he would like to finish the album at some time. However, this never happened. A few songs were released online and on Mike’s Things I’ve Done, Things to Come album. All of the songs from the various compilations were added to two live songs and released as the Chelsea’s Chasin’ Dragons EP in 2019.
Whether or not this album was finished beyond the released song has been a source of debate. Knott made statements in 2000 that seemed to indicate all songs had been recorded, but they just needed some finishing work. People that worked with Knott have since stated that no other songs were recorded beyond the ones released on compilations. There are some songs on the 1999 Strung Gurus demo that have not been released to the public as of yet.
